Berber Villages Sahara tour:6-day Atlas Mountain and desert trip combine Berber Villages of the High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. We provide a three-day trek to discover Berber villages and experience the friendliness and hospitality of the Berber people and take you through stunning mountain routes. Additionally, you have a traditional Moroccan meal under the stars and experience camel riding on the dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga.

Itinerary of Berber Villages Sahara tour

Day 1Marrakech – Asni – Imi N’oughlad (1450m) – Tizi N'Tacht (1900m) – Ait Aissa Village (1800m)

We depart Marrakech after breakfast and begin our adventure through Berber villages, then to the Sahara desert. We are going to meet our group of muleteers by car in Imi N’Oughlad. Once there, we’ll begin loading the mules and filling the water bottles to get ready for the trek. The walk will start at 1450 metres above sea level, crossing the village to reach Tacht Pass. The midday meal will be served outside, where you may take in the breathtaking views of the surroundings. The descent to the villages of Tahliouine and Ait Aissa will come next. After five hours of walking, we will spend the night with the locals, welcomed by a Berber family on the spot. 400-meter climb. Descent 350m.

Day 2 Ait Aissa Village – Matate Pass (2100m) – Aguerssioulal (1700m) – Tizi N'Aguersioual (2000) – Imnane valley (1800m)

On the second day, we ascend through the juniper forest toward Matate Pass (2100m). Enjoy the expansive vista of the Azzden Valley and the stunning rainbow spectacle of the surrounding mountains from this ancestral site of transhumance. After that, we’ll start our ascent up the Aguersioual Pass and down the Matate Valley, passing through its lovely villages. Our lodging is located in Tinaghrine village, which is in the centre of the Imnane Valley. 800 metres of ascent. 700 metres of descent.

Day 3Tinghrine – Tizi N'Tamaterte (2200m) – Imlil (1740m) – Armed (1800m)

We will depart this wonderful Imnane valley early in the morning, travelling through breathtaking Berber communities nearby. We will continue our trip by going along a lengthy path that offers a broad perspective of Imnane Valley. Next, at 2200 metres above sea level, we will traverse the Tamatert Pass, which offers stunning views of the Ait Misane valley. We will tackle the descent to 1750 metres above sea level, the town of Imlil. We will stop for lunch before arriving at Armed Village. five hours walk. 360° Ascent, 360° Descend.

Day 4Imlil – Ait Ben Haddou Ksar – Tizi N'Tichka (2260m) – Ouarzazate – Skoura Palm Grove

We leave Imlil and head towards Ouarzazate, passing through the Tizi N’Tichka (2260m) and the High Atlas Mountains. After there, we’ll go a short distance to Ait Ben Haddou, a Ksar that was designated a global historic site by UNESCO in 1987. Our lunch break will take place at Ouarzazate. After that, we’ll head towards Skoura on the road. A remarkable oasis, Skoura is surrounded by vast groves of palm trees that offer breathtaking views of the Amerhidl Kasbah, the High Atlas Mountains, and a thousand palm trees. We’re going to the Kasbah Hotel for the night. Drive for six hours. 380 miles.

Day 5Skoura – Roses valley – Todra Gorges – Tinjdad – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Dunes

We will travel to Kelaat M’gouna, the capital of roses, after a customary breakfast. After that, we’ll pass through the lovely Berber settlements that line Roses Valley. We travel into the High Atlas at Tinghir City to see the breathtaking and well-known Todra Gorges. We’ll keep travelling till we reach the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes in the Merzouga Sahara desert. The Ziz Valley, the Arfoud palm grove, and Rissani town will all be traversed by the route. Before beginning our hour-long camel ride to the camp in the centre of Erg Chebbi, we will locate our camels at the base of the dunes. You may take in the stunning display of colours at sunset and marvel at the magnificence of the Milky Way. The dinner will be animated by a little concert.

Day 6Merzouga – Tazzarine – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

You will awaken in the morning to witness the hues of the sunrise reawaken the sea of sand. We will go to Tazzarine after breakfast, stopping along the way to take in the breathtaking views of the desert and mountains. The Draa Valley, one of southern Morocco’s most picturesque valleys, will then be traversed by car. These are typical green civilizations and earthen villages that you can find. After having lunch in Ouarzazate, we will go across the Tichka Pass and arrive in Marrakech. Berber Villages Sahara tour comes to an end. About eight hours of driving. 560 miles
